Catholic Charities Diocese of Metuchen

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen incorporated in 1982 to bring its services to those in need within the community. They run more than 120 programs from 29 sites in the Diocese of Metuchen. The Connections mentoring program of Middlesex County matches children in need of a positive role model with community members who have volunteered as mentors. The program has doubled in size in the past several years to be able to serve twice as many children. Catholic Charities is a faith based organization and works to inspire those who seek help, and through hope, it strives to empower those who were once helpless to succeed.

Amachi-Break the Cycle of Middlesex County partners with Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen’s Connections mentoring program. Together, we bring together the children of incarcerated parents with qualified mentors who will act as supporting friends and positive role models. Our partnership with Catholic Charities allows us to work with children ages 6 to 16 in Middlesex County. They are then matched with a member of their community who has been screened by Catholic Charities.

The safety of each child in the program is our highest priority and we make sure that every volunteer clears an FBI background check, fingerprint screening and a child abuse history check before they are eligible to mentor. To ensure that our mentor/mentee relationships are going to be long lasting and positive, potential mentors are interviewed by Catholic Charities so that they can be matched based on interests, goals and values with their mentee.
